A friendly reminder from a South African Kilcock local – Coleen Vorster:
“I doubt that anybody could possibly forget but, just in case, this is just a reminder that the Rugby is on this Saturday (Ireland v. South Africa) so it’s time for biltong, droewors, chilli bites, boerewors, crisps, etc. and don’t forget the charcoal.”
and of course… “Go Bokke!”
Coleen runs the BuySAfrica shop on New Road in the village. I’d highly recommend the boerewors sausage – they are made locally in Ireland and are totally delicious and come in flavours like Chackalacka (chilli), Sosatie (curry) and traditional. While they are perfect in a pan they are especially gorgeous when barbecued over charcoal. Happily Coleen sells those instant foil BBQs. And you should probably try Mrs H. Ball’s chutney lashed on top. Feeling hungry just writing this…
There are loads of other goodies in the shop – sweets (Peppermint crisps are the shops biggest seller!) and biscuits, spices, coffee, roibos tea, South African staples, breakfast cereals and South African wines (from a very reasonable €6.99 a bottle).
So here’s to making an event of tomorrow’s match – invite some people over and cheer on Ireland (or South Africa) with a can of Guinness in one hand and boerewors sausage roll in the other.
