Organic Food in Kilcock

Foodies be gladdened – Kilcock is well placed on the Good Food map of Ireland…

Morrin O’Rourke Farm Foods (Farm Shop and Bakery)

Kilcock’s very own Organic Farm Shop is just minutes out of the village on the way to Clane (take a right turn just about a mile from Lyons and Burton). Through the garden on the right side of the house you’ll find the most delightful little shop with an excellent selection of organic fruit and veg, condiments, drinks, cupboard staples and more. The Morrin’s tell me they try to source most of their veg from Ireland (though this gets a little tricky during the winter months). They also do home bakes, both savoury and sweet and hand on heart it’s some of the best I’ve ever tasted. You might already be familiar with Mary Morrin’s pies – the Chicken and Ham and Beef pies that you’ll find for sale in Walshes butchers in Kilcock. They are the best pies I have ever had (and that is something coming from an Aussie who knows her pies). Try them.

Whilst we were there getting a box of fruit and veg and some freezer meals (fish cakes and a fab looking lamb hot pot), Mary appeared with a tray of mince pies, fresh from the oven and offered one each. They were incredible.

I’m also told that their wild venison sausage rolls are also unbeatable. If you like your food, you’re going to be food heaven at the Morrin O’Rouke Farm Shop – open Friday and Saturday’s from 9am (or you can phone ahead). Belgard, Kilcock. Tel: 01 628 4411.

Organic Eggs from Chuckies

I have a bit of a thing about eggs. I like to eat them as often as possible – boiled, poached, fried, egg sandwiches, etc. I used to only buy free range but now I’ve gone a step further and I addicted to the organic eggs from Chuckies Organic Produce. They are beautiful, orange yolked and totally delicious. Once you’ve tried them it’s hard to go back to the insipid yellow yolks from the big shopping chains. You can get them at Walsh’s Butcher and Browne’s Londis. If you’re into eggs – give them a try.

Chuckies is also doing Organic Turkey’s for Christmas – at very reasonable prices for the best quality bird. Check out Chuckie’s Facebook page or get in touch with Gerry on 087 2101611  if you’re keen for some organic white meat at your Christmas table this year. The numbers are limited so get in quick.

If anyone else knows of great organic produce lurking around the Kilcock and the surroundings please let us know.
