Become a mentor… Change a teenager’s life!

You were a teenager once, remember??

become a mentor

You know how hard it is – trying to fit in, home pressures, peer pressure, school pressures and external pressures like drink, drugs, bullying etc. Coping with all this at a time when you’re trying to form your own identity, find your place in the world, developing from a child to an adult.

Would you like to help a young person navigate through some of these difficulties?

Le Cheile are looking for volunteers act as Mentors to young people. We offer a Mentoring Service to young people and parents of young people engaged with the Probation Service. Currently, we need male and female volunteers in the Kilcock and surrounding areas. Being a mentor involves meeting weekly (1 – 3 hours) with a young person to chat with them about what is going on in their lives and offer support and guidance where appropriate. The aim is to encourage a young person to to make positive lifestyle choices, to help them with their confidence and self esteem and to help them to get into the habit of setting and achieving goals.
The mentoring sessions are usually centered around an activity eg, a meal, a game of snooker, trip to cinema, bowling, a short course of evening classes etc. The cost of the activity is covered by Le Cheile.

We are also looking for volunteers to become Parent Mentors which also involves a weekly meeting to check in with a parent about how things are going for them. Mentors focus on the Parenting strengths, while helping the parent to explore alternative methods in areas where they find challenging.

Being a Youth or Parent Mentor can really have a positive impact in someone’s life.

No experience is required as full training is provided.
