Gearing up for St Paddy’s Day – Parades… & Ducks?

The St Patrick’s Day committee has been hard at work organising Kilcock’s 2010 St Patrick’s Day festival – which is only about 6 weeks away! It’s going to be an extra special day for all the community – the annual parade will take place and directly following it will be a new event – The Kilcock Duck Race taking place directly after the parade in the Harbour.

Taking Part in the Parade

All businesses, sporting organisations and community groups are invited to take part in the parade – the theme of this year’s festival is “Our Kilcock” (blush!). The St Patrick’s Day committee and the Kilcock Business Association (who are presenting the Duck Race) are hoping the this year’s festival is the biggest and best in years. Business entries are €80 and club, school or voluntary groups are €40. If you haven’t been involved why not take part this year? There is a minimum of 2 cars per float and further details are can be downloaded: Kilcock St Patrick’s Day Information (PDF).

The parade starts 1.30pm on the 17th March. There are several prize categories for best entries and there is a presentation night in the Kilcock Gaa Club on Saturday 27th March 2010 at 9 pm where all prizes will be presented to all winners.

Volunteers Required

The St. Patrick’s Day committee meets on Monday nights at 8pm in the GAA club if you would like to go along and assist in preparations. The are also very much in need of volunteers to help with stewarding the parade and the Duck Race. Please get in contact with Michael Minogue, the Chairman on 087 3142292 if you can assist.

Little Red Riding Hood Pantomime

Pantomime Little Red Riding Hood will be showing in St. Josephs Hall, Kilcock from 6th to 10th January 2010 nightly at 8pm, with Matinees on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th at 3pm.

All those who have been to a play or musical by the Kilcock Musical & Dramatic Society know how wonderful and professional the group is – I’m yet to be even slightly disappointed by a show the have put on. All those who haven’t been… Go! Have fun! Bring the kids and the young at heart.

Something for the Weekend

There’s plenty to around Kilcock and the surrounding areas. Last weekend we shone a spotlight on things to do in Kilcock village breakfast, carols, shopping etc. This weekend the great outdoors are in focus. It’s definitely dropped a few degrees but rug up, bundle the kids into the car and head a few miles down the road:

Clonfert Pet Farm

Let your Children enjoy the magic of Christmas this year at Clonfert Pet Farm…visit Santa, see all the animals (including Australian wallabies!!) and enjoy the fun in the playground! Santa visits this Saturday & Sunday 19th & 20th from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Entry Fee is €5.00

Donadea Forest Park

Santa is also making an appearance in Donadea Forest Park too. Bring the kids and dogs, go for a walk and have a nice cup of tea to warm the cockles. Donadea Forest park is located 8 KM south of Kilcock on R407 to Naas. Entry is €5.00.

Kilcock Canoe Polo are Irish Club Champions for fourth time in a row. Big congratulations!! This year the competition was held in Athy, Co. Canoe Polo Adult Beginner Course

Starting Wednesday the 16th of September Kilcock Canoe Polo will be running a Canoe Polo Adult Beginner Course.
Classes will continue for 5 weeks. They consist of 3 X 2hour sessions and 2 X 3hours (total 12hours). They cost €80 and equipment will be provided. If you are interested please contact The Secretary, Gillian Devlin 087-6390473 or via the Kilcock Canoe Polo website and register your interest.
